To further support our mission of creating an environment where every child in the area of Talanga has the opportunity and motivation to attend school daily we are currently operating a virtual library in Talanga. This library is open and free of charge for all children in Talanga and can be used to do homework or simply use the internet.
At the moment the virtual library is equipped with two computers, a printer as well some physical children books and games. Moreover, one of Helping Hands Honduras volunteers will be in the library in the afternoons to support each child with their tasks. We opted for a virtual library as research has shown, that nowadays children rather do their homework in an internet café instead of a real library. This assumption was approved by the public libraries of the community. However, many children don´t have the money to buy the needed internet connection, which often leaves them without homework. The virtual library is frequently attended by children of the area. In total, the virtual library is accessible for more than 3000 pupils from 7 schools.
Besides, the virtual library is Helping Hands Honduras office and used for gatherings with children and people from the communities.
